My current research focuses on the cultural politics of nuclear weapons in France from 1945-1962. Drawing on a wide range of print and audiovisual materials, it is at once a history of ideas, imaginings, diplomacy, environments, technology, imperial power, and affect. Understanding the emergence of “the French bomb” as a national and international project/ion, the book is especially concerned with the representation and effects of nuclear weapons and testing during the era of decolonization.
